Any folks in Santa Cruz land going to the SC Chocolate Festival tomorrow (Feb 8) from 2 to 5?
Rosie and I are contemplating going and it would be fun to see folks while we are down that way.

And there is also heavy construction surrounding my office. The road behind my window is ripped out and this weekend they ripped out the two entry ways. So non stop construction work. Whee

Woke up in the middle of the night having the weirdest dream. And yet the dream felt really familiar... like it was from a movie I had seen. A Terry Gilliam movie. So much so that I actually got up and went to look it up on netflix because I was that sure, even while dreaming, that this was a movie that I had seen. Apparently it was not. But it was a very good and very unusual dream... not even sure how to explain it though. And sadly it is slowly fading.
After that I was woken to my dad knocking on the door, which caused the new upstairs neighbors dog to start barking incessintly and then a call from my near panicing mom who is having a really bad divorce.
I would like to return this week and trade it for another one please.

14 long hours later and I am done with the oven install. The electrician was delayed in getting here so I had to hang around for a while. He just finished about 10pm. Which is really cool that he was able to do it on short notice.
I am dead now... the first thing I am making with the stove is hot water for tea. Tomorrow will be cleanup time and after that i have to figure out what to do next. I have some good ideas for the kitchen layout... just need to figure out the details.
but for now I am dead tired... so I go rest.

Today I am installing a new stove/range/oven in the ktichen. Since Rosie is away at a friends wedding it seemed like the perfect time. And the small piece of crap built in range was on its last toe. The new range is quite a bit larger and wider and has a double oven and a glass cooktop. It is very nice.
THe delivery folks were very fast this morning dropping it off and picking up the old one. Since then I have been breaking apart tile to remove the old cupboard since there is no room for that and the fridge. I am working on a design for the open space there. The previous owner had a tile fetish, so much of the place has tile all over it. Thankfully he sucked at tiling so most of it comes of rather easily. It makes me feel comfortable that it will be easy enough to replace the counertop when we get to that stage. The cheap construction on the condo also made it so the cupboard came out very easy.
my dad came over to help and we we took the removed cupboard down to the dump. At which point his car promptly stopped working. So we spent about twenty minutes trying to get it started while enjoying the lvoely dumo aromas. In the end we got it going but it looks like his fuel pump is dead. He is driving home now in hopes that he can get home before it dies again.
Right now I am waiting for my neighbor, who happens to be a electrician, to come by and help me rewire things so the oven can fit and get the electricity it needs. While things wont look great the oven should be working and all later today. Then I can move on the the next steps in the kitchen remodel.
Oh, and I appear to be fighting a bug as my nose has been running all morning. And of course a running nose if great when doing manual labor.

So... the nice office complex that I started working in last month is having some renovations going on. Apparently the complex was recently bought by a new property management company.
The place is very nice and and full of all kinds of trees. At least it was. I have been watching today as 20 trees so far have been cut down and shipped. Nice beautiful, shade providing and very healthy trees. Just being cut down for no good reason. At least none I have found so far. I have a call into the city of Menlo Park about it.
So now, in addition to killing good trees, the place is looking like a generic office complex in the south bay. It is really sad and depressing to see this.
Update: I heard back from the city and apparently they were removed to do some driveway work and will be replaced with new trees after the work is over. Pity the trees had to die for that (not sure why) but at least they will be replacing them with 2 times the number removed.

Best quote of Comic-Con:
At the JMS (creator and writer of Babylon 5) panel for the new episodes coming out one guy was asking a really nerdy question about the fleet strength of the Earth forces during the 5th year (or something). JMS responds "Does your imaginary girlfriend know you are here? Sit the fuck down!"

Well, I am on my third day at my new job. The days are long and packed but I am enjoying it so far. The company only has about 8 or 9 people, but there are 4 other startups in the office too.
I think one of the coolest things is that for once my platform choice is in the majority. Almost everyone is a mac user. So instead of being on my own in a wilderness of windows I can talk with everyone else about cool mac programs they use and other fun stuff.
Plus about half of my company is planning to get an iPhone when they come out tomorrow.
Well, back to work now.

Well, it looks like I will be starting up a new normal job next week. I was looking for a contract, but an old boss tracked me down and worked very hard to get me what I need/want to work on his new startup.
The negotiations were rather tiring and stressful over the last few days. But it looks like things worked out well.
It will be a fun job working with a small team of top notch folks (worked with about half of them before) in a mac and sun only environment down in Menlo Park. I'll be starting on Monday or Tuesday.

I think I have found the best duet ever. There are no Tralalas to touch in it, but it is the best duet ever.
Oh, and the latest Doctor Who episode, "Utopia"... OMG!!!! SOOOO GOOD!!! Can't wait for the final two of this season finale.

Just wanted to share the wing I sculpted and just pulled from the mold. Its a bit larger than a credit card and will be for Rosie's Koyori wand.
Either that or I will use it for a Sephiroth costume. Given the size I would have to be called Stumpy-roth.

Have I ever mentioned that I hate driving in the city? Well I hate the parking there even more.
I went to see my tax guy today (always a bunch of fun to begin with) and park. I take the time to make sure there is no street cleaning that day so I wont get a ticket.
I come out of my meeting and guess what? The car is gone. Apparently some streets in SF have parking that is a tow away zone during certain commute hours. So the packed street of cars was empty when I came back out. I had never even heard of this before.
So I spent the next 45 minutes walking across town to get my car and pay $240 in fees.
Stupid city!!!!
And FYI to folks, be very careful were you park in the city (near downtown) between 4 and 6.
